Jeff LaBrake - Club Director

Jeff is a Lake Placid Native and grew up training in the Olympic Center. He is a regional, sectional, and national competitor in singles and pairs, and a USFS figure skating gold medalist in both disciplines. When he retired from competition, he went on to an extensive ice show career, skating in a variety of productions worldwide, including Ice Capades. He has a 40-year coaching career coaching skaters of all ages and abilities, in Lake Placid and elsewhere. He also specializes in choreography and skating program administration. 

 

Coaching:

Jeff is available to coach all levels in Singles, Pairs, Moves in the Field, Choreography, and Freestyle.

Valerie Hodgson-Murray - Club Director

Valerie has been coming to Lake Placid for over 40 years. She trained in Lake Placid in the 1970s, and began coaching in the Lake Placid Summer Program in 1984. Valerie has an extensive coaching history with skaters of all ages and abilities. She was previously Director of two Learn to Skate USA programs in Long Island. She has also taken countless skaters through their USFS tests to earn USFS gold medals. 

 

Coaching:

Valerie is available to coach all levels of Freestyle and Moves in the Field.

Marc Fenczak

Marc was a 3-time National Ice Dance competitor and competed at the 1998 Olympic team trials.  He has been skating in Lake Placid for more than two decades and is a double gold medalist in ice dancing and free dance.  Marc began his Lake Placid coaching career over 20 years ago, coaching in the Lake Placid Summer Skating program annually.   In addition to summers in Lake Placid, he has coached at many rinks throughout New York and New Jersey. 

 

Coaching:

Marc is available to teach all levels of Ice Dance, Moves in the Field, Power Skating and Stroking Technique.  He is also available for skate sharpening.

Amanda Jones

Amanda is an Adirondack native and grew up skating in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. She has been coaching figure skating for over 15 years. Amanda is a United Skates Figure Skating gold medalist in Moves In The Field and a silver medalist in freestyle. Her love of the Adirondacks ties directly to the ice. As a skater for over 30 years, Amanda feels as at home when she is on the ice and loves to help skaters of all abilities feel the same. She coaches all skill levels and looks forward to seeing you on the ice.

Amanda is available to coach all levels in Freestyle, Moves in the Field, and Choreography

Angela Gavin

Angela has been coaching skaters for over 20 years.  She is a USFS gold medalist in dance, and has also and has passed international dances. She is a three-time national competitor in synchronized skating.  She was the head coach of the Learn to skate program at the St Lawrence Centre Arena for 7 years and coached the Silver Blades synchronized skating team from Norfolk-Norwood FSC for 4 years.  She has a degree in applied science and has been an optician for over 20 years.  Angela has two children and has been living in Lake Placid since 2007.

Brooke Martineau

Brooke is an Adirondack native who has been teaching for over 15 years in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. She is a US Figure Skating gold medalist in Movies in the Field and a silver medalist in Freestyle. Brooke loves teaching the fundamentals of figure skating techniques to beginner skaters and further developing the skills of skaters as they advance through the sport.

Chloe Hurteau

Chloe started skating when she moved to Lake Placid in the 7th grade and has only grown to love and appreciate the sport since then. Most recently she found her love for teaching the next generation of skaters. She has competed individually and with our club's synchronized skating team and has trained in ice dance as well.

Coaching:

Chloe is available to teach up to Pre-juvenile Freestyle and Juvenile Moves in the Field.
