Meet the Board of Directors

Our board members have had diverse experiences as skaters, coaches, volunteers, officials, and skating parents. Different backgrounds, experiences, and values help us build a stronger club for our members.

President

Christie Sausa

This is Christie's third Presidential term; she has previously served as SCLP Vice President, Secretary, and Director at Large. In her 25-year skating career, she has participated in various capacities including as a competitive skater, coach, US Figure Skating judge, US Figure Skating accountant, Skate Shop co-owner, and ice show director. She has served on the US Figure Skating Tests Committee, was previously the SCLP Volunteer chairperson, and is currently the Test chairperson and Membership Chairperson.  With her extensive coverage of skating sports in Lake Placid and elsewhere, Christie has become a go-to skating expert in Lake Placid and is the author of "Lake Placid Figure Skating - A History". She continues to write about skating for publications including the Lake Placid News, US Figure Skating, and International Figure Skating. Christie still competes as an adult in both figure and speed skating and serves as President of the Lake Placid Speed Skating Club.

Secretary 

Margaret Beggins

Margaret has been an adult skater since 1977 and passionately advocates for further development of club adult skating programs. Originally from metropolitan NY, Margaret served as the Secretary for the prestigious Skating Club of New York from 1982-1984. A dedicated attendee of Lake Placid's summer adult week since 2005, she moved to Lake Placid in 2018 and has since become the Coffee Club program coordinator. She also serves on various Club committees including the hospitality committee and with her husband Peter, frequently volunteers. Avid New York sports fans, Margaret and Peter live in hope that the New York Rangers win another Stanley Cup and the New York Mets win another World Series in their lifetime.

Director at Large

Pat Cannamela

Pat grew up skating and continued as an adult. She is also a high school science teacher and teaches classes in dog training. This is Pat's second term on the SCLP Board.

Director at Large

Gina Jadwisiak

This is Gina's second term on the Board of Directors. An individual and family counselor, she, her husband David, and two children moved to Lake Placid in 2008. Gina started skating in college and suggested to David that he learn to skate so they could ice dance, and the rest is history! They now compete on an adult gold level in dance and Gina is a silver-level singles skater. David was also involved with the Club as former President. She also enjoys serving on the hospitality committee and volunteering for skating events.

Ex-Officio Immediate Past President

Anne Bennett

Anne served as President of the SCLP from 2022-2023. She brings experience from coaching Learn to Skate in her home rinks in Northern NJ, involvement in the Special Olympics movement, and competing as part of a Nationally ranked Theatre on Ice team.  Anne is the 2019 World Junior Figure & Fancy Skating Overall Champion and two-time silver medalist in the same event; she continues to compete in the World Figure & Fancy Skating Championships events.

Vice President

Bethany Kress

Bethany is an Adirondack native from Wilmington, NY, and has served extensively on the SCLP board, including two terms as Vice President, Secretary, and Director at Large. She is a fundraising extraordinaire, helping raise thousands for the Club as fundraising committee chairperson. Beth has served on other committees, including the Documents Committee, where she helped revise club documents including the Bylaws, and currently chairs the Holiday Show Committee and Ice Sessions Committee. Beth has also worked extensively in Wilmington with other community initiatives including helping form the Wilmington Ski Club and serving as Vice President of the Wilmington Youth Committee. She skated with the SCLP for over 10 years, synchronized skating with the Placidettes and practicing singles. Her daughters Kaitlyn and Kathryn have skated with the Club for 11 years and are currently in the Aspire program.

Treasurer

Robin Miller

Robin has involved with the SCLP for decades. She represented the Club as a competitor and later became a Club Coach; her daughters Karli and Krissa also skated. Krissa would go on to compete at the 2003 National Championships. Robin's husband Mike previously served as Club President and she previously served on the SCLP Board of Directors; she was also involved with several Club committees and initiatives, including managing the former SCLP Second Hand Shop. Robin can often be found volunteering or working for ORDA, where she sells tickets for public skating sessions at the Olympic Center and Oval (in season).

Director at Large

Angela Gavin

Angela (Angie) started skating with the Massena Figure Skating Club as a third grader and was proud to be part of a National precision (now called synchronized skating) team, competing with them three straight times at the National Championships. She coached with the Norfolk-Northwood SC for 13 years. Angie came to Lake Placid in 2007 and she and her daughter Abby, who also skates, joined the Club in 2008. She has been coaching for the Club since 2010. She is the first coach to serve on the Board of Directors recently since the bylaw amendment permitting coaches to serve.

Director at Large

Joletta Yates

Joletta became involved with the SCLP in 2018 when her children Lawson and Aenea started skating. She served as Vice President from 2022-2023 and remained to serve on the board as a Director at Large. Joletta started skating last year and participates in the Club's Learn to Skate Adult and Coffee Club programs.
